I suspect that is the way with all living things in nature.

I don't think that is always the case. There are people who die from a broken heart or who die shortly after a loved one dies. My aunt and uncle both died in their early 60s. First my uncle got cancer and died very quickly....within months, my aunt got cancer and died. After my uncle died, she told my cousins she didn't want to live.......and all the medical treatments to help her did squat. My cousin was shocked at how quickly the cancer moved through her body.

Here's another example from neolib:

You hear repeatedly of people in comas who die when a loved one tells them they can go........that they can pass on. Ms. Schiavo may in serious pain.......no one has anyway of knowing what she is thinking or feeling....if at all. What's left of her brain may be distressed by her condition.........if she is even capable of that much thought. I think it is wrong to keep someone alive artificially just because the living can't stand to let them go. That's mean and selfish IMO.

Hi Mary, good to see your posts again. How are you doing?

CNN had a poll that showed 88% of the people would not want to remain on life support like that.
