You're right about all of that cb....I was speaking of the large mass exodus from both Germany and Ireland that happened in about 1846.... The Germans in particular had been over here for years....as a matter of fact, I've wondered if any of mine came over from Hesse during the Rev War...can't prove it yet, but am looking at that. They were paid mercernaries, and did a great job in helping to win the freedom for this country...Baron Von Steuben must really have been a welcome addition for George Washington.

It is such a Miracle that we even have this country. There were just about 4,000 men in the Continental Army...most were militia... The distances were as great as they are now, but they had no cars, no TV, no telegraph, no radio...etc. The colonies were small by todays standards, and yet they communicated via Committees of Correspondence and horseback patriots. One of my ancestors was on a Committee of Correspondence from Massachusetts before Lexington and Concord. Both he and his son fought in both battles.
