Did you think that there was more determination this year or did you feel that there was a feeling of malaise setting in? Rain early in the day kept out numbers down. We had about 175 people at the rally. This compares with 350 at my first rally in Oct, 2002 and about 275 on January 20th for a Counter-Inuguraral Parade. As far as determination, it is hard for me to judge. I tried earlier to express more anger and outrage at the lies that were being used to lead us into an illegal and immoral war. I'm more resigned today to the fact that the American public has been neutered by corporate media and the structure of the American labor market. Those who are wage slaves, at whatever income level, know that stepping out of line and demanding the impeachment of the President and a revolutionary change in Washington is liable to cost a person their job. That can be combined with the fact that most Americans get their information about the world from the TV. And there, they are largely being taught lessons about the capitalist model of winner takes all and losers disappear, which seems to be the story-line on CBS's "Survivor" series and Donald Trump's "Apprentice" series. The reason George Bush can get away with his outrageous and radical reorganization of American governance is because the public has been lulled into a dismal stupor about politics, meanwhile engaging themselves in an orgy of borrowing and spending. It's quite a decadent combination, especially for a militarized police state. *** I do have a recommendation. On Saturday night, I showed "The Yes Men" to a full house in an auditorium on campus. It was an outstanding success. Of all the documentaries I've show in the past year, this was by far the funniest, most outrageous and yet had a serious message about the criminally-minded monstrosity called the WTO. theyesmen.org Hilarious! :)
