Most pain control medication, especially opiates, is under prescribed due to physician fear of patient addiction and law suits. I don't think there is anything on the natural medicine side which is as effective or has as many long term positive effects as the ACE inhibitor blood pressure medications. A very sweet class of drugs with low side effects, long term use allows the heart valves to reverse the naarowing that resulted from adapting to high blood presure. The ACE inhibitor drugs (e.g. Enalpril) do this better than other types of blood pressure medication. Of the statin drugs, which can have some negative side effects, they are also showing some unexpected benefits. They seem to reduce colon cancer. Lipitor, the biggest selling prescription drug in the world, also appears to inhibit or delay the onset of Alzheimer's diseease. This was found by researchers who were looking for the expected reduction in colon cancer rates. Lipitor is the one the UK wants to make availible with out a prescription. ****** With a government and political class that has an interest in promoting a fear culture - the dangers Al-Queda, Iraq, red meat, fall of the US dollar, second hand smoke, SUV roll overs, etc. - Good news (like the Lipitor data) doesn't get near enough coverage. There are some very useful "natural" items, ginko biloba, ginseng, Omega 3/6/9 fish oil and some others. As for wellness - I will have to take being artificially enhanced. I've tried to deal with life without the help of caffine, and I don't do very well. ;-)
