I realized you probably knew Jesus was not born in December, from the way you wrote the sentence. I was simply emphasizing the point that if Christians have chosen for their celebration a date which is simply symbolic, why on earth can't pagans celebrate their festivities and get the same amount of time off, on dates that are authentic to them and go back to the beginning of time?

I am curious as to why you think that people should only get religious holidays off. Every industrialized society gives workers a considerable amount of time off. Americans have fewer paid holidays than workers in other countries. Employers are not only giving the time off for religious events. There are patriotic events, country anniversaries, and tons of bank holidays. All of these facts seem to weigh in against making pagans work on the holidays that actually belong to them, at least in my opinion.
