I am sure that hoping does not work. I am completely perplexed, though, as to why flights to and from South Asia cannot simply be stopped, as well as trade coming in and going out by ship. Everyone seems to be very fatalistic about the pandemic, and yet when it becomes one it will be passed from person to person, not from duck to duck. We cancelled flights for a considerable period of time after 9/11, and the world did not come to an end. This would kill millions of Americans, I'm assuming, not three thousand. If all the countries in North, South and Central America agreed to stop flights and shipping, think of the lives saved. If the other countries did not want to, then we could simply shut our borders north and south with huge numbers of military personnel, backed up by air surveillance.
