My dad served in WWII in the Pacific theatre, first on the ground in the jungles (Guadalcanal) and then in the marine air corps. I recently found his letters, and V mail, as well as his logs for his plane, and a bunch of other stuff. It's just so amazing to hear his voice coming out of those letters, even though he has been dead for years. I wish he'd shown me this stuff before he died, but he never wanted to talk about the war. He had nightmares all the time about the war, and he left the service an alcoholic, and remained one till he died.
