This is a bad case, with bad law being made.

Occam's razor tells me that there is more going on than meets the eye. I am willing to bet that Terri Schiavo has evidence of traumatic injuries consistent with spousal abuse and assault, and that her present physical condition is consistent with medical neglect.

I am also willing to bet that Michael Schiavo will not allow her to be autopsied after death, but will insist that she be cremated immediately.

My typical stakes are a bottle of your favorite tipple (I like single malt scotch) or a case of your favorite beer, but I seem to recall that you don't drink, so name your stakes.

If she's cremated without autopsy, I win. If she is autopsied, and there is no evidence of assault or neglect, you win.

Lindy, you seem to be an intelligent person, why not go to the Bush thread, click on the post that contains the petition to have Judge Greer removed from office, read the statutes he has violated and see if it might effect your opinion of how Terri has been treated by the Fla. Judge. jdn

Hi Bill, I'm not really sure where I stand on this issue, and I could be wrong here, but my gut tells me you're too quickly labeling it one of those religious things without openly looking at all the information.

Where I stand now, the entire issue seems way blown out of proportion to me, but in typical MSM news selection fashion, this one has galvanized the country for some reason and they are running with it 24/7.

In the big scheme of things, it doesn't seem that big of a deal whether she lives or dies. Not likely she will live any sort of productive or decent life anyway. Doctors in hospices make these kinds of decisions all the time, except they are dealt with responsibly by the family members of the person suffering. Heroic efforts at life saving are usually stopped at some point in order to let the person die in peace. Not that feeding is particularly heroic, but, certainly taking care of a vegetative person is very difficult long term, especially where there is no possibility of ever regaining a sense of oneself.

On the other hand, why don't they just remove her from the hospital and place her in the families care? Seems to me they could easily be taught to insert a feeding tube. If they care enough, why not?

I suppose that appears somewhat callous, but I care more about the GI in the sands of Iraq who just died yesterday and wish the MSM would galvanize the country toward promoting our values of freedom and liberty (thereby lowering their risk of death), by showing round the clock coverage of positive movements toward democracy around the world. I would also watch allot more T.V. news coverage if they did, which would be a win-win for the networks.

I suppose like allot of things I am in the minority on that one though.

Finally saw an authentic bull fight in Seville, Spain the other day. All I can say is, I can appreciate the skill of the fighters, the pomp and circumstance of the event, and the traditions and such, but all in all, it was pretty gross. The darn bull never stood a chance, those guys made mince-meat out of the toughest bull that came running into the ring in a matter of 15 minutes. After seeing 5 bulls go down in flames, I decided to head across the street and have a beer at a local bar instead. :)

I also visited a wonderful city in Spain called Rhonda a few days ago. Really beautiful place I would highly recommend seeing. Had some of the best steak I've had in years, which made sense, because it was the first bull fighting place in Spain.

This case has had years of judicial fact finding done, and I hope they are not going to try to do it all over again. This is a bad case, with bad law being made. I hope we get a judge with the guts to stand up to the pressure. But I doubt it.

My feelings exactly.

Congress needs to defer to the States on issues like these. Federal intrusion into these types of things is totally unwarranted.

But you might be missing the political end of things.

In my estimation, W and the GOP are supporting Jeb not only because they have to but because they know how important Florida is to presidential politics.

I would bet you dollars to doughnuts that a Florida poll would show that most Floridians side with the GOP on the issue.
