Increasing regulation is anti small business, and your example indicated that Republicans resisted increasing regulation, but that Democrats increased them anyway. Forcing all businesses to operate under the same rules eliminates competitive advantage. Businesses start to resemble governments. When there is no variation between businesses, then there is no need to hire communication consultants. Democrats directly harmed your ability to earn a living. Again, the debate about diabetes coverage is and example of increasing government regulation, which harms small businesses. Some small businesses probably had the coverage you did not have. During the 90's, the health insurance plan I administered for a small business included diabetes coverage. I made decisions about what carrier and policy to utilize and implemented them. Your insurance conundrum might have been caused by the Tort Bar or other localized forces. I could go on and on how the Dems have consistently helped small businesses. This is not the case for the Republican party. They are for the religious conservative and the large corporations, but not the small businesses which is the domain of the Dems. Why do the Chambers of Commerce on a national level overwhelmingly support Republicans? Chambers of Commerce do not represent big business; these are overwhelmingly peopled by small business people? The few small business owners I know who support Democrats are new to business, those that have been in business for any period of time all support Republicans, because they recognize the fit. The charge that Republicans only represent religious people is Democrat spin. For example, the Jewish vote is still overwhelmingly Democrat. Democrats represent the unemployed, union bosses (not membership) and the very wealthy. Big business interests are aligned with union desires to prevent competition from small businesses. Republicans represent those between the extremes. This is why an increasing percentage of union membership is aligned with Republicans against their union boss elites.
