I tranlated tivo.jp ......
As for DVR of TiVo the function has been similar to VCR, but, there is no kind of troublesomeness which handles video & the tape. If one time it sets, it searches favorite television program automatically from the program schedule, videotapes digitally. Please enjoy new ??????????? where with DVR of TiVo, you adjusted to your own life style

anybody have an opinion on Windows Media Center (MCE) as a Tivo killer? i am getting a new system with MCE and i have been exploring how to replicate the Tivo experience (i am only interested in Tivo because my Scientific Atlanta DVR from Time Warner sucks big time, but i won't get Tivo since it doesn't handle HDTV yet). you run the cable/satellite feed into a TV tuner on your PC. MCE has Tivo-like functionality in terms of downloading and saving programming. then you upload from your PC to your TVs via a "Media Center Extender", which is a kind of set-top box for each TV.
i'm sure Tivo is still better for the time being (these Media Center Extenders are probably bleeding edge for another year or two), but in two or three years, i don't see why MCE couldn't be quite popular and kill Tivo.
about the Extenders--these are key because it allows you to take the PC out of the living room (only geeks would put it there) and back in the home office, yet still run your living room TV (and bedroom, etc.)

about XP MCE 2005 (sounds like a pretty good program): winsupersite.com

in the long run, i think MSFT is very smart to use a PC as the media hub. given how cheap PCs have become, i think it will be hard for the dedicated hubs to compete. also, it will be nice to get rid of the crappy DVRs from the cable cos.
