Two issues:

1) This is NOW, not 'then'. Anything to be done NOW (even experimental stem cell treatments? No, human testing is banned in the US).

2) What potentially useful 'treatment' do you say was 'refused' in the beginning? Who 'refused' it? (I.e., husband, HMO, insurance company, etc., etc.)
