Karen, I would be more useful to know how many there are being kept alive contrary to their wishes and how many have been allowed to die in accordance with their wishes. There are two other questions: 1) How many died contrary to their wishes and 2) How many had made no explicit indication (and then break that one down by being killed and kept alive). In 2) I specifically say 'killed' because the death was involuntary - as opposed to a living will directing removal of external help. John
