This is an offshoot of another topic that I've wavered on.

The reimportation of drugs

Its a pretty tough pill to swallow that Americans have to pay more for their meds than other countries. When you look at honest reimportation from Canada that could save people 50% its pretty hard not to embrace it. When you look at 7-9 times ROI for a drug company, again, its hard not to embrace reimportation. But the more I thought about it the more questions I had. I still think drug companies make too much money because they've cheated the testing systems that would send drugs to generic earlier. But they also send low and no cost drugs into areas of the globe that would never get drugs because of the poverty rates. The worry I have is that if that were to stop we could be sealing our own fate. With how small the world is today because of travel it wouldn't take much for a localized outbreak to become a global pandemic. The short story here is that while we pay too much for our drugs there are some benefits to these low cost/no cost drugs maybe keeping a nasty virus isolated in another part of the globe. Now drug companies could certainly do more, make less money and still be major league profitable. But I'd rather not see that come from price controls. We need to find a happy medium so that things like this freakin bird flu stay in the areas of the globe they started and don't travel into our space. If that means paying a little more so I don't get sick and grow feathers.....I'm all for it
