As to this.

My brother-in-law worked in a hospice for years, they gave terminal patients lots and lots of narcotics. I got the impression that sometimes it was the pain meds that pushed them over the edge.

With the whole world watching, I would expect care and squeaky clean process to be in place and I doubt meds would push over the edge.

But outside of such public glare, I expect anything could happen.

But nobody says they will give pain meds to Terri Schiavo.

It think that's a given. That and sedatives. Over the last few years the medical community has gotten over their stinginess with pain meds, particularly in hospices. That's the basis for the boom in the hospice movement.
