Hydrofluoric gas, and upon release and combination with water or water vapor hydrofluoric acid, is the most dangerous chemical used in most oil refineries as it can easily eat through almost everything including glass, metal, rubber, concrete, and people.

In Chevron's facilities HF facilities are located in the center of the refinery and any release automatically triggers a water mist system, built of materials resistant to HFL to convert the gas into a liquid acid which can be contained in the immediate area. I have no idea what system other facilities use.
