Schiavo has had most of her cortex dissolve into some sort of fluid.

I'm no neurologist, but I am sure, absolutely positive, in fact, that the judges who passed on the case were profundly influenced by this fact.

Of course, Congressional brains seem to have been in a similar, hopefully transitory, condition when the statute was passed.

Never pass a law in the middle of a Saturday night in DC.
