Are you suggesting we set up some kind of hospice court that needs to be consulted when this kind of decision needs to be made?

I would submit that the evidentiary test should be like a criminal case of "beyond a reasonable doubt" if you are going to pull the plug

So if you can't all agree on her medical condition, then don't kill her and let her partents look after her.

Rich,
I could join with you in arguments re. letting her live.

However I do believe after the individual (hopefully expressed in writing), the next of kin has the final say. That is her husband. I have seen no "preponderance of evidence" (your phrase) that leads me to believe that he is doing anything more than than what he believes she wanted for herself.

I have provided my wife with my 5 wishes. If my family tried to overrule her execution of my wishes in court, I would be absolutely fighting mad. But I would by then be unable to fight. Today, I discussed this subject once again with my children and asked them not only to cooperate with my wife but to support her decisions. They all agreed to do so. I know my dad will have no argument with letting my own immediate family decide. His only wish is that I be buried in Arlington for which I qualify.

My youngest is 36 and this issue is forcing them to consider their own choices. Perhaps that will be a positive outcome from all of this.
