If I recall correctly, I think they say you can take 60% of the Japanese and plop them dowm most anywher in NE Asia and they are indistinguishable from the local population. The Japanese are much more recognizable by clothes and mannerisms than by physical features (relative to the Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese, that is).

That's not been my experience. The Japanese I've met tend to be taller and darker or lighter depending on what part of the island chain they are from........in the south, they are darker and in the north, lighter. Their faces tend to be more narrow with high cheekbones.

The Koreans, Chinese and Vietanamese, in general, tend to be shorter with rounder faces. Of course, there are exceptions.

We should defer to Taro and Ten. Apparently, they are the experts on things Asian.

This is not quite correct. It is true, however, that Koreans and Japanese often look very similar. That is until you see them walking and in particular so the woman. Also the Koreans have longer face features than the Japanese. As for Chinese vs. Japanese, they do indeed look quite different.

But I admit that sometimes it takes a trained eye to see those differences. Not being familiar with the Asian people they all look the same.
My wife (Japanese) was back in 1969 visiting Copenhagen and several times being followed by local guys interested in contact and even making their proposals in what she believed was Danish. Since it was her first time in Copenhagen I had to explain to her that those guys believed she were an unusually attractive eskimo girl from Greenland. And that they were well known for being easy prey.
