The smiles and tears are simply neurological reflexes, experts say.

I wonder what makes the difference between real human emotions and simple "neurological reflexes." The notion that her brain turned into liquid, as Amy would argue? Seems like the basis for stopping the care of thousands of patients, especially those in advanced stages of Alzheimer's.

No, with Alzheimer's the celebral cortex does not turn to liquid but rather brain synapses start to misfire.

Are you sure you are an engineer? I thought engineers depended on science rather than myth when structuring their arguments.

BTW have you never had your eyes tear during a strong wind? Have you not noticed that Terri Schiavo's 'smile' never goes away......its a fixed expression. Are you sure you are an engineer?

Tenchusatsu,
I haven't looked it up yet,
but Rush mentioned Michael Schiavo didn't start saying "it was what his wife told him she wanted" until seven years after her stroke...

It all stinks.

As Rush said, let's shut down all the kitchens in retirement homes....
