RE:"WASHINGTON - The U.S. population of undocumented immigrants has reached an all-time high of nearly 11 million and is shifting away from states traditionally favored by illegal entrants to many new ones, according to a report released Monday."

Talk about the government being behind the curve. I think its safe to double that 11 million to 22 million. And it's BEEN all over the US for years. North Carolina is loaded. Up until recently you could get a drivers license with no proof of citizenship.

re: CA is terrified of cutting off the flow of illegal immigration population for fear that CA's economy will fall into the dumper.

Not just California. I saw some statistics on the percentage of our crops that are picked by illegals. That and construction jobs... we are dependent on illegals.

It's one of the few areas where I agree with Bush... a guest worker program. If you are not going to enforce a law because it creates a public benefit, it's time to change the law.
