Ted, Too many poor foreigners speaking too many different foreign languages taxes American cities to the breaking point.

I guess that's the price to pay for having a nanny government. Everyone who makes it here expects a free lunch.

I'm saying let them come, but don't give them the free lunch. Provide the basic minimum like emergency care (which itself isn't cheap) and m-a-a-a-a-y-b-e schooling for their kids (once again, I hesitate because of the cost and the potential overcrowding), but that's it.

re: Schools in cities as diverse as Seattle and LA have pupils speaking 60 different languages often with English as a second language. Its this kind of language diversity that taxes the teachers and results in marginally educated students who later create problems in the broader society.

We're a nation of immigrants... it's always been the melting pot.
