i have not spent time with her in her current condition sufficient to have a real personal sense of her awareness and her 'caring'....

MD, you don't have to have any experience with people in this condition to recognize that if one does not have a cerebrum, one cannot think, given that that's the part of the body that does the thinking. It's as simple as that. Forget about Terri and Michael for a moment and focus on anatomy in the abstract. She has no cerebrum. She cannot know what's going on around her or care about what happens to her because she is physically incapable of thinking just as a person without eyes is physically incapable of seeing. I know someone who was born without an esophagus. She couldn't eat until they built her one. Ya gotta have the requisite body part. You don't have to spend a second's time with her or anyone else in that condition to know that.

These clips of her moving and apparently interacting have thrown off a lot of people because they're so compelling. They distract us from the salient and overriding bit of information, which is that she has no brain.
