I would like to see public education become a bit more dynamic. I think public education is one of the keys to holding our very diverse society together. We do not have many institutions that give us common ground- the educational system is one of the few institutions that does. If the system has problems, I think it is probably critical to our success as a democracy that we fix it. If we cannot fix it, and we head further and further into a stratification between haves and have nots, then we are on our way to oligarchy, or worse (well, we may already be in an oligarchy, save for the label- but it can always get worse).
