We are a nation of laws, supposedly. The law says the husband is the legal guardian, therefore he has the law behind him, despite the elapsed time.

I do understand that there are serious moral implications to this case. I personally am not happy with a society that kills it's own, especially if they are still somewhat cognizant. It seems to me that society should be on the side of preserving life, we spend enough on doctors, police, fire, etc. to save lives, there's no reason to needless take them. But, our society is complex. Terri's rights to live are intertwined with her guardian's rights to make decisions for her.

I just don't like the political grandstanding at the last minute. These issues should be dealt with in a rational legistlative process. This is why we need such things as living wills, so we don't come across this problem again.
