Karen,

What I was trying to say was that people who want Terri's feeding tube connected sincerely believe that they are working in her interests and people who want it disconnected sincerely believe that they are working in her interests.

Well said.

Michael appears to have tried really hard to work with his wife's doctors in the early years. This flies in the face of the sinister accusations that may have come from some things he said in frustration later. Being frustrated 4 or 10 years into this kind of ordeal is only human.

Two things occurred here that created this havoc - the mother fought him on the DNR order after he was convinced she was beyond help. Then the Florida legislature redefined nourishment by tube as an extraordinary measure. This permitted a new out - separate from the DNR.

Those of us who view life as sacred - should fight that law and permit and advise families to look at DNR's appropriately when advised of their options by their doctors.

John

"I don't question that there some bad actors or some bad acts that have occurred during this ordeal."

It all turns around Michael S. He is the guardian but he does not have the right to 'decide' for Terri. There are people able and willing to care for her. There are no 'medical' procedures keeping her alive, unless you consider feeding someone a medical procedure. Michael has moved on with his life and no longer has an active interest in what happens. He has another life with another woman etc. He may be a the highly principled character who wants to see Terri's wishes honored... If people believed that, this case would have been over long ago.

One possibility is for Michael to convince everyone he is being honorable (now in question due to nurse and family allegations). Seems like that is do-able via investigations and lie detectors etc. Not so much considering everything else that is involved.

"I don't think anyone deserves to suffer over this. (Except the political opportunists and hypsters, that is. <g>)"

Agreed.
