The point is this assumption that depegging causes a rise. China's currency controls mean that the avg Chinese may dump RMB on the depegging.

I think everyone is driving down the road, unaware that they have a blind spot in their vision, and because of that, unaware to ask the question

"What is behind the blind spot?"

The answer might be "RMB falls on depegging"

-in which case many assumptions about possible outcomes would need to be rethought.
