Another brilliant observation. I think it goes a little deeper than that. Last time I checked, no one was bragging they had too many dollars at their disposal. Greenspan needs to seperate the reality of his policy on the real economy from hedge funds that borrow too much money to leverage returns. He needs to use a different instrument to control hedge fund borrowing - I would be delighted to see him change the margin policy. I doubt he will do that as he makes constant references to obscure products like single stock futures as the wave of the future. We need a leader that is willing to curb excess speculation and protect the real economy.
