If you want a united Iraq, you have to start with uniting the Army. You can't segregate the nation into Sunni and Shia and expect the outcome to be anything other than Civil war.

When I read of the disbanding, I immediately saw that it was a huge mistake.

If we had the proper size force there, it would have been easy to determine who the crazy Saddam loyalists were. Of the 400,000 Iraqis in the Army, the number of Saddam crazies was not that big. Regardless if you don't pay them and offer them a chance to be part of the new nation, then you are sending them off to the streets unemployed...and where do they end up? As part of the insurgency. So now instead of the opportunity to include them, you must now fight them...Brilliant!
