Organic farming is not a hobby where I live. It is an honorable way to make a good living, supported by the citizenry who shop at socially conscious grocery stores and farmers' markets, and benefiting human health and the environment. Farmers also get better prices for organic products. I think it is the only way that family farms can be saved, which I think is a very important goal. It benefits everyone (except Monsanto and friends).

Factory farming has a long history, but most of the exponential growth in this deplorable practice began in the 1950's.

I'm wondering if perhaps the consumers in your locale don't support organic farming so much because it is a conventional agriculture culture? Younger shoppers and college grads demand organic products. It's a real growth industry nationally.
