That's true, and I was thinking of the Soviets as I was writing. Their religion was the religion of the state...the communist party, where membership was pretty much essential. Kind of a no-religion religion. Atheism was at the heart of communism.

Bush is trying to make religion more and more a part of the government. Faithbased initiatives, school prayer. The school prayer thing comes unraveled if it's imposed, as muslims will be bringing their prayer carpets to school...and that won't fly in the red states.

Both ways will ultimately fall apart. The founding fathers had it right as they penned in the concepts of freedom of religion and separation of church and state.
