Sorry--you won't change my opinion on libertarianism no matter how hard you try. I think it is extremely peculiar to believe in concepts like private charity as solutions to hunger when such a large percentage of our population is hungry. In fact, I think it is a joke, really. Libertarianism is a philosophy that only benefits the rich. It would turn America into a feudal society, going backwards as fast as we can.

I am selfish too because I don't like to see people sleeping on sidewalks or spreading tuberculosis because there is no public health system. But I think it is a higher form of selfishness than libertarians practice. I can't stand to see people suffer, and I accept that people have varying degrees of capability to take care of themselves. I will pay higher taxes to have a social safety net that is better than ours--one more like western Europe, even though I know there are some problems with theirs. We are the only industrialized nation without national health care, and I think that is just purely evil. I am way too enraged and polarized on this issue to change my mind. Also I am sick and sort of grumpy.

I am sure there are other interesting things we could talk about, though. I am just really sure of my position on this one.
