Diana, this is a moderated thread. If Slider continues to wreak his baneful effect and slip into total ass-holed-ness, it always up to the Dog to rusticate him.

EDIT - basically it's in our hands. If enough responsible posters yell "Basta", something will probably be done.

Diana-

While your last post is dead accurate in its description of the old Strictly thread and of SOB's unsubstantiated braggadacio and his, at best, mediocre record of success, I would ask that you remain connected to this board.
It has not yet gotten bad enough to leave, has it? If it does, I suspect a remedy will be in the offing.

Remember........"it's not "if' but, "when". What an uninformative line, eh? gggggg

Diana, one way to defeat this kind of baloney from Slider is to prove him wrong or ignore him.

I know how to deal with these kind of people but I suspect that if I were allowed to have at him that others might become annoyed with me and I don't really want that.

These topics would always come up anyway and facing and discussing them is educational also. To me it is important to help people see the other point of view, the less popular one in the eyes of the fanatical neocons that in their irrational exuberism end up misleading people into making bad investment decisions based on their special kind of hillbilly gingoism.

i'm a regular lurker but have never posted. Learned a lot from you fine people. The knowledge pool here is just amazing. I have to say I was immensely impressed by Slider until he brought out the China issue with economic wmd theory. The idea is laughable to me. The logic behind it, if there is one, has to come from really naive and arrogant people who lack the basic understandings of that country, the people and the culture heritage.

Just feel like to second diana's opinion. And Slider - you are 10 times smarter when it comes to investing in energy but stay away from that economic WMD theory. It hurts your credibility.

Frank

I would have thought that a self described misanthropic sociopath that was raised by wolves would have felt right at home here.

Perhaps it is for the best though. That way us guys can work out our differences mano a mano unfettered by silly female sensitivities <g>.

Lots of the time this board is kind of like CNBC anyway. Much more useful for its entertainment value than for serious investment discussion.

You're still coming to the OSX 300 party aren't you? Because damn it, this time it is different <g>.

Diana, I lost all respect for the guy when he recently used a quote from Carl Icahn completely out of context and flipped it on its head, and turned a bullish statement into a purportedly bearish statement. When you catch somebody doing that you don't know what other games they are playing that you haven't caught, so you can't take anything they say seriously from then on.

You leaving the board means he wins and you lose. That's not good.

He thrives on attention, I for one will not respond to any more of his posts. Hopefully if enough others follow he will give up.

Diana,

I for one will greatly miss your posts here, they are equalizing to what would possibly be excessively bearish.

I didn't catch what post or posts pushed you to this finite edge, but for the sake of us that like balance, please stay.

Nuff said from a guy in the old oil country, Louisiana.

diana g----say it ain't so, PLEASE!

This board is too valuable to suffer losing someone of your caliber because of the deleterious effect that a poster of that caliber has upon it. I'm dead serious in that opinion.

I would only hope that his Royal & Grand Doggedness will exert his all powerful influence on the slick one to modify his tactics toward a more civil tone so that we can maintain the highly informative and friendly decorum we enjoyed up until a few weeks back before ol' slippery made his presence known.

I've witnessed as a lurker the degradation of the strictly drilling board as well as several others when this type of poster shows up. And like you, I too have observed this board heading that way---I was hoping that a few of our more seasoned posters would be able to subtly set him straight with some friendly rejoinders, but his posts seem to have daily headed down the unpleasant path of insults, demeaning commentary, and the instigation of fear/panic reactions in the readers of his missives.

This guy is a genius at what he apparently strives to accomplish---by the skillful application of mis-information, mixed in with many valid and true facts drawn from extensive research, all thrown into the hopper of lengthy and convoluted rationale and logic---he does his best to influence and manipulate the markets toward his desired goals. He may be trying to move the market down at times, and up at others. Bull or bear, it makes no difference---just whatever offers the greatest reactions to his efforts. And occassionally he scores a good call.

I have been detrimentally affected by this barrage of manipulation to the downside...not from accepting what he spews forth, but, from fear of the affect it is designed to have on the naive and the gullible in the market. I have lost a lot of the measure of confidence that I had in what ability I was enjoying in my short term trades...my fear of the panic/fear that he may have created has decidedly affected my judgement and inclination to readily execute my trades in a timely fashion. And I'm fully aware that my age and comparative lack of investing experience, leaves me more vulnerable to suffer some serious losses in a panic driven market.

I think these words in response to another poster's comments regarding his "arrogance" reveal his true character and intent in his strategies:

>>>Rest easy...the hyperbole is for (much needed) effect.

- someone had to do it (vbg)<<<

Sounds very light-hearted and harmless, doesn't it?...until one suffers through several days of his "hyperbole", and oberves the "effect" of agitation and fear that it creates. And then the true revelation of his self-aggrandizement becomes apparent in that "harmless" last line he threw in (vbg). And all this is "(much needed)"? Give us a break!

I sincerely hope he can see that these tactics are not readily accepted on this board, and that he can moderate his behaviour more towards the tone which has made this board the best there is. And diana, in my book, your contributions to the board ranked with the best. If we lose you, I fear for the longevity of this great board. It would indeed be a tragedy.

Just the rantings of an old man and his Gitalong!

Buck

Diana, hoping you are still reading the board, let me say you are 100% right; thanks for articulating it so clearly. But it seems like some are missing your point here.
It's not about being long or short, the negative of SOTB and the like is the atmosphere it creates in the room, the quality of the conversation, so I understand 100% you want to leave (not that I encourage you to do so).
And it's not like you can merely ignore SOTB, but it is the kind of posters it attracts, and the kind of replies that follow, and the ones it discourages. Slowly but surely, this room would become unbearable.
I hope your stance will have a lasting result to keep the quality of this thriving board, despite the wave of posts in favor of SOTB. I hope he keeps his word.

Cheers and good luck to you.
