Elroy,

The latest $81 Billion war supplemental included $582 Million to build the largest U.S. Embassy on the planet.... in Baghdad. Currently, the U.S. military is occupying 4 permanent bases in Iraq and constructing 10 others.

The U.S. government is not leaving Iraq until the last barrel of oil is extracted, or until the Iraqi resistance makes the occupation too painful for the U.S. taxpayers to continue to foot the bill. So far, there is scant indication that the citizens of the U.S. are anywhere near ready to give up on the plundering of Iraq which they will pay for with taxes, deficits and their children's lives and limbs.

I agree with you. We should be able to start leaving sooner now that Iraqi forces are doing their part. That doesn't mean right now. I think we are just starting to see Iraqi forces stand on their own two feet. If Bush is serious about Iraq and not just after the oil, I bet we can get our troops down to something like 10K by the end of 2006. Good progress is being made in Iraq, but we can't leave until the Iraqi forces can take over all of U.S. coverage.
