In the Jewish culture that Jesus was born into the idea of speaking with a women, let alone a samaritan or gentile women, was taboo. Jesus broke down all the barriers. He accepted all the outcasts and became an outcast himself.

There is racism, genocide, rape, etc... in the bible. It is an inspired book written by the hands of fallible men. And from this book we have saints. From the very same book we have monsters posing as men. It seems man can fashion their own gods from this book and become as holy or detestable as they deem fit.

And what sort of deranged person would curse a fig tree? What sort of supernatural witch doctor would believe that "demons" lived inside of people and caused them to go blind or have fits or brain disorders?

Culture and context is everything. We view the world from such civilized eyes. One thing of note, the bible is not a medical book. It is not a science book (as Greg would believe it to be). It is a spiritual book with spiritual lessons for spiritual people.
