Taser shares jump on statement by U.K. Home Office
Thu Mar 24, 2005 11:51 AM ET
NEW YORK, March 24 (Reuters) - Taser International Inc. (TASR.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said Thursday the United Kingdom Home Office approved the use of its Taser X26 stun gun, saying its life-threatening effects are "less than the already low risk of such an event from the M26 Taser."
The Home Office had been using the M26 since Sept. 15, 2004, but most law enforcement agencies had been awaiting the release of the X26, which the company says has improved features and a smaller design.

"This is a resounding approval of greater widespread use of TASER technology in the U.K. and we expect it to be echoed throughout Europe and international countries that have been following the lead of the United Kingdom," said Tom Smith, president and co-founder of Taser.
Taser's stock rose more than 6 percent Thursday morning to $12.89 on the Nasdaq.
