Thank you for posting Peggy Noonan's comments.

And those who are still learning--our children--oh, what terrible lessons they're learning. What terrible stories are shaping them. They're witnessing the Schiavo drama on television and hearing it on radio. They are seeing a society--their society, their people--on the verge of famously accepting, even embracing, the idea that a damaged life is a throwaway life.

How many people on feeding tubes?

This morning local Lancaster tv station showed a mother with her daughter on feeding tube for 26 years. her daughter at age nine started having headaches, later internal bleeding on the brain. several operations and has been taken care of at home for last 24 years. Parents retired , father drives bus at night to take Amish around and make some money to keep her in this nursing home , get treatment and exercise. She shows visual expressions, smiles, eyes move, appears to recognize her mother , hands flexible thanks to the exercise given to her by her mother throughout the years.

The only thing keeping this woman alive is a feeding tube.
