It never ceases to amaze me how you and others on this thread miss the bigger picture. You claim to be so sympathetic to the lives of American soldiers, yet you fail to realize that a Democratic Middle East will save thousands, perhaps tens of thousands or millions more American lives, if doing that will help us avert a WMD attack against the U.S.

The problem is that I don't believe the people who are telling you such garbage. How the hell are they going to take out millions of Americans when they don't have missiles that go that far? This is a knee jerk reaction. I said it before....use your head. You are playing right into what Bush wants you to believe.

You think that we can leave the Middle East to continue to be a cesspool of despotism and oppression and that Americans will enjoy freedom from attacks and death? You are wrong. With Middle East Democracy comes our surest bet for bringing peace to Americans.

My God you sound like an army recruiting poster.

Fact: The ME has struggled without the US for hundreds of years and done fine. Its only since Reagan we have tried to 'take care' of the 'ME problem' and where we've putzed around like a bull in a china closet that we've encountered trouble. That should tell you something but unfortunately, historical precedent apparently is meaningless to the right.

Also, you are talking about American deaths in the tens of thousands, but American deaths have started to trend downwards in the last 3 months as Iraqi troops take on more of the burden. I track Iraqi war deaths too. Here's the site I have bookmarked: icasualties.org;

The election was in January......its only been two months. There was a build up prior to the election. I am grateful that the insurgency has not been able to maintain that level of killing.

Besides, we've heard this all before.......things are calming down. Things are better. Just more nonsense to keep us hanging. If things were improving, you would hear Bush talking about a phased withdrawal. He is not. Most Army generals are talking another two years before withdrawal can begin. That should tell you something.

Changing policy, U.S. to sell F-16 jets to Pakistan

From Elise Labott
CNN Washington Bureau
Friday, March 25, 2005 Posted: 4:23 PM EST (2123 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senior U.S. officials said Friday that a deal to sell F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan was approved and the United States will compete for contracts to provide Pakistan's nuclear rival India with the same jets.

Why the hell are we doing this? Didn't the Pakistanis just set off a nuke? Isn't that what we are trying to prevent with Iran?

Is it any wonder that our ME policies look hypocritical? Isn't it any wonder they don't love us in the ME?

The biggest threat to the U.S. is no longer Russia. It is terrorists with access to WMD.

I'd say it is and has been for the past decade, China. The ME is just a minor distraction compared to the Chinese threat. 1.2 billion non-democratic, imperialistic, no respect for human rights Chinese droids coming at you...
