I think the thing that is being overlooked in discussing Terri Schiavo--particularly in this campaign by the right to life movement--is that there have been numerous court decisions based on testimony by several people besides Michael Schiavo where Terri expressed not wanting to be kept alive by artificial means. The last minute campaign has been really sensational and caught a lot of people's attention, but really this case has been litigated almost to death, and the reason judges keep refusing to order the feeding tube reinserted is that evidence of her wishes EXCLUSIVE of Michael Schiavo has already been ruled as credible.

And I think that if I brought my cat into the vet and the cat had no brain function left and could not walk or meow or purr or play or eat, or even enjoy catnip, and that somehow I had managed to insert a tube into its stomach to provide predigested nutrients, the vet would be totally within his rights to report me to the authorities, because that would be animal cruelty.
