We should take the Democrat advice and do nothing on SS. In this way, the system will implode in twenty years, bringing about what I have wanted all along.

Social Security is a bankrupt Ponzi Scheme.

We have a solemn obligation to our senior citizens to pay them their promised benefits. It is a contract between generations. People pay into the system all their lives on the assumption they will receive those benefits. You can't just pull the carpet from beneath their feet and tell them - We are not going to pay. If you have to raise taxes to pay those benefits, so be it!

We have no legal obligation to do anything with a Ponzi Scheme but arrest the perpetrators and lock them in jail. There are many fools who have invested their beliefs in Social Security. We have a moral obligation to give them something. If we do nothing in twenty years SS will implode and nothing will be paid to any but the truly destitute. Most of those who were counting on it to provide them the house on the golf course will be living in shacks instead.

The best offer I have heard from any national politician has forwarded is the offer from President Bush to allow younger workers to invest some of their own funds that are currently confiscated to spend on general pork. He has suggested allowing younger workers to monetize less than one third. Once the treasury is forced to actually invest it instead of allowing politicians to spend it, we sill see some changes in government spending becoming important. Fiscal prudence such as that practiced by those not willing to retire into poverty will creep into government.

We need to transition from a welfare system to an investment system. The accumulation of savings would catalyze a growth in our economy helping to grow us out of the problem caused by rampant spending in the last half century.

If you wish to be respected, please show us your cancelled checks from your donations to the treasury. Those who put their money where their mouth is earn respect. My money is invested, and helping the economy grow. This is what I advocate, and not more confiscatory taxes.
