CR, well stated--CI made the same point about the double counting recently. OTOH, those figures do not include NPV of any of the long term govt liabilities which are not on the books, calculated at some $54 trillion or so at last count, i believe (including the extra Medicare drug benefits approved last year).

so, maybe the real amount is double your $27 trillion. OTOOH, if those liabilities are not extracting from present c/f, i guess out of sight, out of mind -g-
