Ish, hospices offer palliative or comfort care. From the press conference Michael Schiavo's attorney gave tody, it seems like she isn't on pain medication right now because she doesn't need any. No one has ever asserted that they wanted her to suffer while she died, and everything is being done by previous court order, including what Catholic rites will be observed. I realize Michael Schiavo is not a warm and cuddly figure, but there is no evidence that he wants his wife to suffer horribly, and I'm sure the doctors would not allow that and that the Schindler family would go back to court if that were ACTUALLY happening. They are just trying to manipulate the press and their supporters to keep this case in the headlines. But I think people are starting to move on. The American public's attention span is notoriously short. The poll I heard about today indicated that even a clear majority of EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS supported removing the feeding tube and letting her die.
