Well, this is fun, at least for me,: George has replied (see below) to Mr E's (aka N's) comment to which this is linked. "...You're right, certainly, about the Islamists' antifeminist hysteria. (And to be fair, Hitchens does mention that.) Also about the principled rejection of democracy. I'm just not sure these things would have motivated large-scale violence, absent the perceived imperialist grievances, at least until globalization was very much further advanced.
