That's actually a part of the neocon philosophy. Leo Strauss called it the "Noble Lie", the lie told to the masses who were too stupid or ignorant to understand the real hidden genius of the philosopher kings. The "Saddam has WMD" kind of lie is their stock in trade.

Certainly a popular thing. Seems like they would realize their "arguments" have some problems if they need to lie to support them. Doesn't matter how accurately you point out the lie. They just reply by calling you a liar, but without any examples. Pretty pathetic overall.
