Hmmmm

Now what were you saying about getting emotional?

<<But once you start dragging in people's personalities or insulting their arguments because you didn't agree with their stance on an issue six months ago, it becomes personal>>

Ahh...Yeah...Personalities are personal. Hence the reason they share the same root word. But this is about ideas and values - not personalities. Your past remarks make me question your priorities and values as they pertain to human life.

<<I think the most humane thing for Terri Schiavo is that she should go ahead and die>>

I think it would be best for her too if she's going to remain in this condition. The difference is I'm not willing to cause it.

<<And now I see you are threatening me because like a majority of Americans, including evangelical Christians, I think the best outcome for Terri Schiavo is for her body to die so she can move on to whatever is next in her religious faith? That there is going to be some sort of horrible reaction to me by posters at Feelies simply because I share the majority opinion? That is patently ridiculous.>>

I'm not threatening you. I am say prepare yourself because as this drags out I think people are going to be shocked at how the opinions change. Once the pictures of a dried out, emaciated body are seen I think it's going to shock people back into reality. And there's that word again - "Christians." Do people of religious faith scare you, darlin'?

<<someone can be relieved that a bunch of hunters won't kill any more deer but would never ever think that murdering hunters is acceptable>>

And posters were suppose to be able draw that sentiment from a post that said "Live by the gun die by the gun?"

<<If you want to live in a world where medical research and logic and reason are not the way you form your opinions, fine.>>

Now just before that remark you said this - "a world where things are complicated, where A AND B might both be true"

But now only a logical, well reasoned person would conclude that starvation was THE BEST IDEA. No A and B action on this one - just starve her! How could I have been so illogical?

I understand your desire to try to get people to move on, but I will warn you that some people on SI have absolutely no ability to do that. They have formed an impression of you, from your off the cuff remark about the hunters, and they will never, ever, ever change it, nor will they ever move on enough to refrain from mentioning it. That is who you are for them. I can understand how that might bother you- since none of us are as simplistic as our antagonists think we are, but there is nothing you can do to change it.

You can ignore people, or you can engage them (to absolutely no effect)- and those are the only two choices available.
