In the moments immediately after their surrender our troops are on full guard and ready to shoot to kill at the first and smallest provocation.

One of the realistic moments in "Pvt Ryan" that you never normally see portrayed is when the troops killed surrendering Germans at the top of the "Omaha" cliffs. Someone who is killing your friends and suddenly decides to surrender is lucky to survive. "Heat of battle."

I am absolutely proud of our military for promoting the timeless values that form the central mission of their service - honor, integrity, loyalty, and courage in facing difficult situations.

Anybody can fight dirty and try to survive.

Our military is different.

You were and are part of that tradition. You were imbued with that spirit - whether it was in your nature or not <ggg>.
