You would eliminate any spouse or parent from the decision making pool because they may have to pay some of the medical bills Apparently Michael Schiavo doesn't have to pay Terri's medical bills, she's allegedly indigent and her bills are being picked up by Medicaid. But that's not what I meant by a conflict of interest, although it could be. If, for example, a spouse or parent expressed the desire to "pull the plug" because the bills were too high, would you not agree that this made their judgment suspect?
