US-style layoffs being exported...
Tower plans dozens of U.S.-style layoffs
By Shirley Yom-Tov
After letting 170 workers go late last year, ailing chipmaker Tower Semiconductors is expected to fire dozens more this week, most in production and development. Haaretz learned of the move yesterday, which was apparently necessitated by a continued drop in orders in recent months. The company recently began shutting down the production line at its Fab 2 plant one day a week.
American methods will be used to implement the dismissals. Workers will arrive for their regular shifts only to be greeted with a pink slip. They will be denied access to their computers and asked to leave the premises immediately. Tower declined to comment for this report.
