Currently, she says she is not interested in medical school. Being in the health care field myself, I can't recommend it either. Between big brother, the insurance companies, unfunded mandates, and lawyers, a lot of the fun and enjoyment has been taken out of the profession.

The bioengineering and biomedical engineering is a way to make a difference yet not have to deal with many of the problems that are now part of the health care field.

I really enjoyed practicing until insurance companies and big brother started telling what tests I could perform, what treatments I could prescribe, how much time I could spend with my patient, and how much I could charge. On top of that they threaten you with $25,000 fines and 5 year imprisonment if your billing service makes a mistake filling out a billing form. Gee!!

BTW, my niece and her husband are graduates of Speed and my cousin is a Professor of Chemical Engineering there. I almost went there 30 years ago before deciding to become an Optometrist. Currently, the engineering school has 2024 students and represents about 10% of all the students at the University of Louisville.

The biomedical engineering program at Boston University looks impressive.
