HP closer to choice of chief executive

Business Week recently reported that other potential candidates include Intel Executive Vice President Sean Maloney

------------------

Brian, some of the other candidates have flipped from company to company. What is HP's board thinking? Enough of the high-paid types that simply want to cash in for a few years while a board is asleep. Then there's the one CEO (3M or something) that never worked in the hightech industry - good grief, he'd probably sell the entire HP laptop, server & PC lines. Sean Maloney is probably a good candidate for HP. But would not be good for Intel to lose him. He'd be foolish to leave Intel, I think. And Intel would be foolish to let him leave. OTOH if Intel's customers don't perform well, then Intel can't, so having someone fix HP could be good for Intel.

I think Carly's early years at HP were very effective in changing the culture from a passive environment into a more active environment (and that was needed by an outsider), but at this point, they could use a bit of an insider style, I think. OTOH an outsider can bring creative ideas to the table. But do they even have the margin room for creativity?

HP should promote the HP printer guy from within.

Regards,
Amy J
