I hate it when foolish people say the equivalent to: "Oh, but Johnny made me kill him. He was mean. I had no choice."

But isn't your view naive?

Isn't it a fact that wars often, perhaps most often, solve problems? Did not the Allies solve problems in WWII? Did not the Coalition solve a problem in the Gulf War by removing Iraq from Kuwait (even if Saddam was to be a persistent PITA afterward)?

I hate it when foolish people seem to conclude that war must always be avoided at all costs. This kind of Chamberlain-ish complacency is what led Europe to allow the Nazis to rebuild their military as all of Europe sat on its hands. Evil as it may seem, sometimes starting a war is the best way to deal with a problem. The "war is a last resort" mantra sounds great; but the reality is that there are times when a war is preferable to doing nothing.

Mary, For me, these three concepts have withstood the test of time.

Thanks, Mary. If more people practiced those simple concepts, we'd live in a more peaceful world.

However, I know many people who have followed those concepts in their own personal lives, yet still support their President in times of war.

"Three simple phrases...:

1. Thou shall not kill.
2. Do no harm
3. Love thy neighbor"

Your attempt to summarize the commandments is a bit faulty.

Christ summarized the commandments thus:

1. Love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, mind and soul
2. And love thy neighbor as theyself.

Without loving God (which demands the worship of Christ), you simply cannot do you "three simple phrases." Christ's list assumes that you have accepted and worshipped him as Messiah. So, in the context of the Resurrection and Ascension, the love and worship of Christ has to be added to the list. If we reject the second person of the Trinity, we reject God. To love God with all your heart you must accept Christ as Messiah and Lord.

For me, my first year course in college, the History of Western Civilization taught me everything I needed to know. Three simple phrases stand out:

1. Thou shall not kill.
2. Do no harm
3. Love thy neighbor

In this world, how do you administer justice?
